On a positive note, the food was good. Shamefully we could not engage in any conversations while enjoying the food.
Very disappointed with the remodel of this place. Took out the cozy booths and replaced with wooden tables and chairs with what they consider to be half booths which is simply cushioned benches against the wall with chairs on the opposite side of the tables. Patrons herded into the dining room like a bunch of cattle. It was so noisy in there that I couldn't hear my husband speaking to me from across the table. The food is still excellent but the ambience is completely gone. Been going for many years but will not return due to the remodeled design.
I don't know who designed the remodel and new decor of the Olive Tree, but they need to be shot. The Industrial look does not go with the cuisine that they serve. Who wants to go to fine dining only to be seated for dinner on a wooden bench against a wall? Due to the new design of the walls and table, there is nothing to absorb or deflect the various sounds. The volume of noise was so loud that we could not carry on a conversation with the person sitting next to us or across from us.
Yet another local business making a change apparently only for the sake of change. Definitely not a change for the better.
I was worried this place was going to be an Olive Garden knockoff, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. You get handmade breadsticks and a large bowl of salad, both of which were way better than Olive Garden. The portions are huge, I usually finish everything but I had to take some home. There were 3 chicken breasts in the Mediterranean Chicken, which was more than I expected. Probably the fanciest restaurant in Aberdeen.
I've always enjoyed eating at this restaurant, the food, service and atmosphere were usually always good. Last time however when my husband and I went there we were very disappointed to see how it had been remodeled. No more comfortable private booths. There was one long bench with a bit of cushion that went the whole length of the room with tables lined up and chairs on the opposite side. When we sat down it felt like we were too close to the other guests. It was very noisy and would have been difficult to have a private conversation. I 'm sure our meals would have been good but we decided to take our business elsewhere since we were hoping to have a quieter more private dining experience like we used to have at this restaurant.
Every time I'm here I am treated great and served quickly. I've tried different items and liked them all. I usually sit in the bar and eat dinner with my drinks but I have also sat in the dining area as well and enjoyed both places.
